AK44 Live Blackjack: Rules and Basic Decisions
Quick Summary
- You play your hand against the dealer, aiming nearer 21 than them without busting.
- Your decisions matter: hit, stand, double and split each change the result.
- Table rules such as the dealer standing or hitting on soft 17 shift the edge.
- Seats and stake limits vary; check the AK44 live lobby.
Blackjack is the live table where your choices actually change the outcome. You play your hand against the dealer's, aiming to get closer to 21 without going bust. This checklist covers card values, the main decisions, the table rules worth reading first and a simple set of basic decisions. Use it alongside the table's own help screen, and check the AK44 live lobby for open tables and seat availability when you log in.
Before you start: values and the goal
Number cards count at face value. Jacks, queens and kings count as 10. An ace counts as 1 or 11, whichever helps the hand. An ace plus a ten-value card on the first two cards is a blackjack.
You win if your total beats the dealer's without going over 21, or if the dealer busts. If both totals match, the hand is a push and your stake is returned.
- Hard hand: no ace, or an ace that must count as 1.
- Soft hand: an ace counting as 11, such as ace-6 (soft 17).
- Bust: any total over 21 loses immediately.
Your decisions explained
Each decision has a clear purpose. Learn them before you sit at a live table, because the decision timer is short.
Some live tables use a shared hand where many players follow the same cards and each makes their own choice. Others seat a fixed number of players. The help screen explains which format you are in.
| Decision | What it does | When it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Hit | Take another card | Low totals where busting is unlikely |
| Stand | Keep your total | Strong totals, or when the dealer shows a weak card |
| Double | Double the stake, take one card | Totals like 10 or 11 against weaker dealer cards |
| Split | Turn a pair into two hands | Pairs such as aces or eights, per table rules |
| Insurance | Side bet when dealer shows an ace | Usually best avoided; see our guide |
Read the table rules first
Small rule differences add up over many hands. Open the help screen and check each of these before your first hand.
Watch out for tables that pay less than 3 to 2 on a blackjack. A reduced payout raises the house edge noticeably.
- Blackjack payout: 3 to 2 is the standard to look for.
- Dealer on soft 17: standing is better for the player than hitting.
- Doubling: allowed on any two cards, or only on some totals?
- Splitting: how many times, and can you re-split aces?
- Number of decks used in the shoe.
Simple basic decisions
Basic strategy is a chart of the mathematically strongest play for every hand against every dealer card. It lowers the house edge but cannot remove it. These points cover the most common spots.
For a closer look at one decision that trips up many players, read blackjack insurance.
- Always split aces and eights.
- Never split tens or fives.
- Stand on hard 17 or more.
- Hit hard 12-16 when the dealer shows 7 or higher.
- Stand on hard 13-16 when the dealer shows 2 to 6.
- Double on 11 against most dealer cards. Fix a Taka budget for the session first, and walk away once it is used up.

Common questions
What happens if my decision timer runs out?
Each table has its own rule, but many live tables automatically stand on your hand if you do not act in time. Read the help screen before you start, and only play when you can give the game your full attention.
Does basic strategy mean I will win?
No. Basic strategy reduces the house edge to its lowest point for that table's rules, but the casino still keeps an edge over time. It helps your money last longer; it does not change the fact that every hand can lose.
Should I take insurance?
Insurance is a side bet that the dealer has blackjack when showing an ace. For most players it loses money over time, so basic strategy says to decline it. Our blackjack insurance guide explains the reasons with numbers.
What does 'dealer stands on soft 17' mean?
It means the dealer will not take another card on a total of 17 that includes an ace counted as 11. Tables where the dealer stands on soft 17 are slightly better for the player than tables where the dealer hits.
Are there blackjack side bets?
Many live tables offer side bets such as pairs or poker-style combinations. They pay well on paper but carry a higher edge than the main hand. Read their paytable and keep any side stake small.
